The Promise Foundation's mission
The Promise Foundation’s mission began the day we decided to honor a promise made to Susan DeZaio, a friend, daughter, wife and mother, who died at the young age of 45 after a 22-month battle with melanoma. Thanks to the help of our supporters, our momentum has been building ever since. We continue to be extremely proud of and grateful to everyone who believes so strongly in our mission of promoting awareness, aiding in prevention and encouraging the early diagnosis of skin cancer. The Promise Foundation’s inaugural fundraising event held in May, 2010 at the Indian Trail Club, Franklin Lakes, NJ, raised over $100,000 and attracted 400 donors, primarily from northern New Jersey. In 2011, we held another successful event raising over $75,000.
Melanoma is the fastest growing cancer in the U.S., and we are determined to make our community (and others beyond) more aware of this potentially devastating disease. To continue our efforts, we are planning another large fundraiser on Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, NJ. Through this event we reaffirm our mission, connect with those who have made The Promise Foundation possible and thank our supporters.
Our focus is the promotion of melanoma awareness and prevention, spreading the word among children and adults as well as partnering with the world’s most recognized organizations in this field, such as the Melanoma Research Alliance, the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), Valley Hospital, the Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation, among others.
