Listed below are some of our Accomplishments to Date, Partnerships Created and Planned Projects:

  • In Partnership with John Theurer Cancer Center  at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC)

    The “Skin Cancer Prevention Campaign” includes two large-scale community events, which offer free screenings and education on the early detection of melanoma. The first of these was held on June 2nd 2011, and attracted the maximum of 125 participants.  We look forward to our second free screening which will be held at the John Theurer Cancer Center on May 17, 2012.  For more information on future events, please visit their website www.jtcancercenter.org.

  • Middle School Melanoma Awareness Program

    In May 2011, 1,400 students at Ridgewood, NJ's middle schools  participated in an educational program about melanoma and safe sun exposure.  The program included a poster contest, and the distribution of sunscreen and goody bags.  This program will be expanded to middle schools in Franklin Lakes and Ho-Ho-Kus in 2012.

  • Supporting the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)

    The MRA is the largest non-government funder of melanoma research. In 2011, we made a $20,000 donation to the alliance to fund research which specifically targets the prevention pillar of our mission.  To date, the MRA has funded over $30 million to support research on melanoma prevention, diagnosis, and treatment with the goal of ultimately finding a cure. www.curemelanoma.org

  • Partnership with the Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation

    We are allied with this foundation to increase awareness of the disease among children and adolescents through the distribution of their educational video, “The Dark Side of the Sun”. This DVD addresses the need for sun protection, the dangers of tanning beds and the importance of mole identification. Statistics confirm that one out of five of us will develop some form of skin cancer in our lifetime. www.molliesfund.org

  • Donation of Shade Tents

    Thus far we have donated 15 canopy tents to Ridgewood High School sport teams and local youth travel teams. Look for the Promise logo and get out of the sun!
