Partnership with John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC)
The “Skin Cancer Prevention Campaign” includes two large-scale community events, which offer free screenings and education on the early detection of melanoma. The first of these was held on June 2, 2011, and attracted the maximum of 125 participants. We look forward to our second free screening which will be held at the John Theurer Cancer Center on May 17, 2012. For more information on future events, please go to their website www.jtcancercenter.org.
Middle School Melanoma Awareness Program
In May 2011, 1,400 students at Ridgewood, NJ's middle schools participated in an educational program about melanoma and safe sun exposure. The program included a poster contest and the distribution of sunscreen and goody bags. This program will be expanded to middle schools in Franklin Lakes and Ho-Ho-Kus in 2012.
